Where are my Oblique Muscles Located?

To choose the correct exercises for your obliques, you must understand the anatomy of this part of the stomach. According to “Bodybuilding Anatomy” The side wall consists of three layers of muscles.

  1. The external oblique is the out visible layer that passes obliquely downward form the rib cage to the pelvic bone.
  2. The middle layer is the internal oblique that passes obliquely upward from the pelvic bone to the ribs. Internal oblique lies under external oblique, and the fibers of the two muscles pass at right angles to one another.
  3. The innermost layer is the transverses abdominis, which lies horizontally across the abdominal wall.
